History
The town of West was founded in 1892 and has a rich economic, social and cultural history. At its core, West is known for (and natives are proud of) its Czech heritage and tradition, earning the title of “Czech Heritage Capital of Texas”. At the same time, residents are very friendly and welcoming to visitors and incoming folks who decide to make this City their home. It has been said that West is as close to the TV town of “Mayberry” as you’ll find anywhere.
Location
Located on Interstate 35 and capturing traffic between Austin and Dallas, West is in the perfect spot and ripe for new business opportunities. Waco is also just 20 miles down the road, which has seen growth and more traffic in recent years of its own. This location is the perfect combination of bringing in those passing through to, or living in, these larger nearby cities, and still preserving the smaller “hometown” feel where residents take care of their own. There are a number of West businesses still around today that have succeeded and thrived for decades on the patronization and loyalty of area supporters.
Lifestyle
One area where West is truly unmatched is its ability to throw a fun-filled festival, Westfest, and bring people together to have fun while supporting those in need. On any given weekend, there is almost guaranteed to be a fundraiser, concert, or other event that brings the town together to support local residents, charities, and businesses. When not out supporting their peers, West residents enjoy dining at the City’s restaurants that garnish both local Czech cuisine, Tex-Mex, and other fare, exercising at the local fitness center, enjoying the beautiful City Park – Parker’s Park (constructed and named after son of the late City Secretary and Volunteer Firefighter Joey Pustejovsky), walking around the safe and well patrolled streets, or visiting local entertainment establishments.
